Job Overview:
An international insurance company based in Luxembourg is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Legal Counsel / Legal Manager to join its legal team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced, global environment, providing high-quality legal advice and support across various departments, including regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and insurance operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Legal Advisory: Provide expert legal advice on insurance-related matters, including but not limited to policy interpretation, product development, underwriting, and claims.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards in Luxembourg and internationally, with a particular focus on insurance regulatory frameworks (Solvency II, GDPR, IDD, etc.).
- Corporate Governance: Advise on corporate governance matters, including board resolutions, shareholder agreements, and corporate restructuring.
- Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with clients, partners, service providers, and other third parties. This includes insurance contracts, reinsurance agreements, outsourcing arrangements, and other commercial agreements.
- Dispute Resolution: Manage and oversee legal disputes, litigation, and claims, coordinating with external legal counsel when necessary.
- Risk Management: Collaborate with the compliance and risk management teams to identify legal risks and propose strategies to mitigate them.
- Cross-border Legal Support: Provide legal advice and support for cross-border insurance operations within the company's global footprint.
- Training and Development: Lead legal training for internal stakeholders on relevant legal topics such as regulatory changes, contract management, and risk mitigation.
- External Relations: Liaise with regulators, external law firms, and other relevant authorities to manage the company’s legal and regulatory affairs.
Key Requirements:
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience in a legal counsel or legal management role within the insurance sector. Experience working with international and cross-border insurance operations is highly desirable.
- Education: A law degree from a recognized institution. A specialization in insurance law, corporate law, or regulatory law would be an asset.
- Languages: Fluency in French and English is essential. Proficiency in additional languages is an advantage.
- Legal Knowledge: Strong understanding of Luxembourg and EU insurance regulations, corporate law, and contract law.
- Skills: Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to present complex legal matters in a clear and concise manner.
- Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide strategic and practical legal solutions.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
- Autonomy: Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting deadlines.
